19th Victory The Trojans rolled to their 19th victory(6-1 conf) of the season over conference rival York 9-2 Wednesday. Kendall Ryndak got her 10th win allowing 4 hits, 8 strikeouts, and no earned runs. Rachel Bradley, in her first game back since April 14 after a bout of mono, was 2-4 with a double, 2 rbis, and 3 runs scored. Also with multiple hits were Katie Hunzinger(3 rbis) and Brittany Nagy. Next game is Friday night at home vs. OPRF, 7:15. Come see the Mayor of DG throw out the first pitch, the DOLLS parade on the field before the game, raffle prizes between innings, and hopefully a Trojan victory.

Lockport pitcher Kelly Bowler was pulled from Tuesday’s game against visiting Marist during the sixth inning.
But there was no time for reflection. And definitely no time for pouting.
RELATED STORIES Photos: Lockport vs. Marist “Coach (Marissa) Chovanec told me that I should stay ready to go, just in case,” Bowler said. “She said that if somebody had to go back in it would be me.”
Lefty reliever Taylor Weissenhofer was up 5-2 and one out away from closing the No. 6 RedHawks out when she walked Megan Gustafson, allowed a base hit by Frankie Rys and an RBI double by Teagan Walsh. Somebody had to go back in. It was Bowler.
The junior right-hander refocused and got Mary Costello on a flyout to center fielder Audrey Mintari to preserve a 5-3 victory. Bowler duplicated her May 6 effort against Sandburg when she started, came out and went back in to save an 8-7 victory.
“I knew I had to have the same attitude coming back into this one,” Bowler said. “I was out back warming up and working on my pitches. I wasn’t nervous. We’re getting a lot better at winning our close games.”
The No. 10 Porters (20-5) won for the 11th time in succession, a streak that dates to a loss April 16 in their first meeting with Sandburg.
As in most of the victories, they did it with heavy Lockport lumber. Amanda Stanton (two doubles) and Lia Romeo (3-for-3, double) were the heaviest hitters on a day when the Porters rapped eight hits against Walsh.
Romeo had a hand in all three innings that Lockport scored, smacking an RBI single in the first, leading off with a double and scoring in a three-run fourth and singling with two outs in the fifth and eventually coming in on a Marist miscue.
“Everyone is seeing the ball really well,” Romeo said. “We see a lot of pitches before games, just get a lot of reps, so that helps. “We’re definitely to be feared. We’re taking nobody for granted and we’re just plowing through.”
The RedHawks (25-5) didn’t help themselves with three costly errors, but didn’t quit after falling behind 5-0.
Holly Kuhl knocked Bowler from the mound in the top of the sixth with a one-out double that sent home Rys (walk) and Walsh (single). Wiessenhofer was brought in and retired the next two batters.
In the end, Marist was potentially one base hit away from tying the game.

Lady Irish Finish Regular Season With Sweep At Fenwick The Irish collected 27 hits in the twinbill, outscoring the Lady Friars 7-3 and 9-5. In game one, Belinda Schaafsma recorded the win, pitching all 7 innings, striking out 3 and walking only 1. Her record is now 13-4. Josie Dexter crushed her 10th round tripper of the season, added 2 more singles, for a 3-4 game. Erika Tatum added a single and triple, and Belinda had a single and a double. In game two, Jaelen Hull got the complete game win, making her record 5-3. She had 9 strikeouts and 1 walk. Offensively, the Ladies were led by Melissa Lareau's 3-3 effort, including 2 doubles and 3 RBI's. Erika was 3-4 with a double, and Aly Hana, Emily Olszewski, and Gabby LaMore all had 2 hits, with Gabby's both being doubles. The biggest blow, however, came in the bottom of the 6th, when Belinda ripped a 3 run dinger, her 3rd this year, that put the game out of reach. With the post season starting next week, it was great to see the offense performing up and down the line-up.

Co-captain Ryndak helping steer Downers North softball to record-setting season
Posted May 19, 2010 @ 02:05 PM Downers Grove, IL — When Kendall Ryndak took the field as a freshman, she was placed in the high-pressure spot of batting cleanup on a talented Downers North softball team.
Two years later, Ryndak has mastered all trades for the Trojans. Downers North’s 24-7 record marks a new program record for wins in a season, and her brilliant pitching (12-5 record) and hitting (16 doubles, a .415 average and the team lead in RBIs) shows only part of her value.
“You can always hear her voice screaming and keeping her teammates up,” Downers North coach Mark Magro said. “She gets the girls going, and does it more by leading and putting her money where her mouth is. Kendall has been lights out this year hitting, defensively and pitching. She’s doing everything.”
And if there were statistics for confidence and great attitude, Ryndak would be an All-American.
“When I go out there I just try my hardest and my motto is ‘go big or go home,’” Ryndak said. “Play the game and don’t think of anything else out there.” A big influence on that attitude was auren McNulty, Downers North’s star player in Ryndak’s freshman year.
“I look up to her so much,” Ryndak said. “I remember she went 0-for-5 in one game, and came back and hit two home runs in her next game. She’s one of the best players I ever played with. I got on the team as a freshman and didn’t know her, but then we started playing, and that Downers South game that year (when McNulty hit a game-winning grand slam) I thought, ‘this girl is unbelievable.’ “And she was one of the hardest working girls I’ve ever seen. She would go home if she had a bad game and go hit for an hour. I do the same thing now. If I have a bad game I go lift for an hour.”
Ryndak has also been the glue for the Trojans through an injury-plagued season that at one time claimed all three Downers North outfielders.
Doing whatever is best for the team, Ryndak shifted from pitcher/third baseman to center field to make room for hard-throwing freshman hurler Elaine Heflin (9-2 record).
“When Heflin was pitching really strong, Kendall went to the outfield voluntarily to do whatever helps the team,” Magro said. “She loves to pitch, but she was fine with not pitching. She’s been a great leader.”
When Heflin joined the list of injured players briefly in early May, Ryndak returned to the mound with a series of pitching gems (including a 14-strikeout performance in a 1-0 win over Lemont on Saturday) to keep the Trojans’ express rolling.
After being disappointed by her sophomore year, Ryndak has come back with her trademark drive. “I came out saying ‘I’m one of the best and I’m going to go get them.’”
Even the Trojans’ struggles have brought a similar positive outlook.
“We always play as a team together,” Ryndak said. “It doesn’t matter who’s out. We all contribute. It isn’t just one player but everybody.”
