I got this email today from my friend Mike and I asked him if we could post it on our site ... it says a lot about perspective and what is important in our world of softball, and if you read it closely, alot about life.
The below story tells alot about how EVERYONE can take charge of life and look at what EACH of us can do to make life better, and not blame anyone else for where we are and what we can accomplish.

FROM NO LIMITS!
Great to average in a day? Not a chance.
In the Chicago area softball tryouts are being conducted this week at the area high schools. Fastpitch softball has become a huge sport in this country and in the Chicago area it is very competitive.
Having over 100 players in my program, many of them have tried out for their HS teams this week. I can promise you that every one of them will make one of the teams at their high school as every one of them is a superior athlete. The problem is many of them don’t realize they are good and they look for something or someone outside of them to tell them how good they are. They compare themselves to others and most dangerously, many of them think “if I can only make varsity, then I will be happy!”
My daughter, a HS sophomore, is a very good softball player and has taken the challenge over the past 7 years to work very hard to improve her skills and to play against the best competition is the country. She tried out for her school team this week with the goal of making the varsity team (which is pretty crowded with returning juniors and seniors). She knows she is a good player and she knows she has the ability to not only make the varsity but to start on the varsity.
On Wednesday, the final day of tryouts, they would announce who made what team. So I was anxiously awaiting in my car for Danielle outside of the school to hear how things went. As a parent, it really didn’t matter to me which team she was on but if she wanted varsity, I wanted what she wants, as any parent would. She came running out of the school (shorts and t-shirt in 20 degree weather!) and bounced in the car with her usual smile and she said ‘Hi’. I said, well…how did it go!? She said, I made JV (junior varisty). I said ‘Danielle, I am sorry.” She said “I’m not. I did everything I wanted to do and I played well. I know I’m good enough for varsity but I will just enjoy JV and I will just dominate there.” I smiled at her and we drove off.
The power is inside of us and Danielle knows that she was a good softball player before tryouts and she is still a good softball player. No one’s opinion of her or her talent is going to change what she knows to be true. She is choosing to enjoy what comes to her and to live in the moment because that is the only thing that is real. She will enjoy the season and I am looking forward to watching her live up to her words and dominate!! (sorry, I am still a dad and I hope she kicks butt!)
Enjoy the day and more importantly, enjoy the journey.
Love,
Coach Mike
