Sept. 30, 2008
Butler closed out its fall softball schedule with four games at the Sycamore Challenge, hosted by Indiana State University on Sept. 27-28. The Bulldogs tied host Indiana State, 4-4, and St. Joseph's, 4-4, while dropping decisions to DePauw, 8-0, and Indiana, 2-1.
The Bulldogs recorded back-to-back ties against St. Joseph's and Indiana State, after dropping their opener to DePauw. Butler scored three runs in the fourth inning against the Pumas and then tied the game on a run by senior Lindsay Schluge in the fifth inning. Butler then finished with the same score against Indiana State, with both teams scoring twice in the final inning. The Bulldogs picked up two hits, including a double, from freshman Lauren McNulty in the contest.
The final game went right down to the final inning before Indiana pulled out a one-run decision on a two-run, walk-off home run by senior Sarah Padove. Butler's Erin Jackson singled and scored in the third inning, and the Bulldogs carried the lead into the final frame. The Bulldogs out-hit Indiana, 5-3, in the game.
McNulty led the Bulldogs on the weekend with four hits and two runs scored, while Jackson added three hits and two runs scored.
