This my my 8th Exposure Event I have coordinated, and by far this year we had the most help from the Homer Hawk families and coaches - thank you!!! When I started in Joliet 8 years ago, we had 30 teams or so and had a little camp tied to it, and everyone loved the opportunity. As the falls have come and gone, more and more teams have cropped up as the sport of fastpitch continues to grow in numbers and talent, however the venues and time constraints in the fall make it tough to coordinate and fit in everyone who would like to participate, so each tourney is filled with highs and lows in organizing.
I always hate to miss anyone who helps me with this event, but some people I want to make sure I mention. Bill Judge was invaluable running errands for us, coordinating with the Hawk coaches for assistance, and assisting throughout the weekend. With his faithful sidekick Dan Cothern and their wives Debbie and Dawn, they make doing all this work so enjoyable! Patrick Carney and Julie Doronzo are unbelievable concession directors and worked tireless hours planning and operating a fantastic concession all weekend! My wife Lisa not only has to see me spend the hours and hours each night working on the events, but then has the responsibility to handle the coaches tent and questions throughout the weekend. Tyler and DJ manned the facility in Joliet both days and did a great job.
Thank you to everyone who helped me this past weekend. Yes I waited till the end to thank our webmaster - Jeff Dexter. His ability to develop websites that are informational and fun to use is invaluable. Thank you Jeff and thank you Charla for letting him spend the hours to make it happen!
To all the college coaches who atended, Jeff will be updating the website this week, THANK YOU for your support, comments, suggestions and compliment
THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY will be receiving around $7000 for the weekends efforts of so many people and teams ... and it would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Hank and Tracey Mazureck, Marie O'Brien, Jim Doane, Lisa Betcher and the woman who exemplifies the pain and hope, the respect for life and the will to live life to it's fullest, to the person who inspired the weekend and who inspires every person's life she touches, a hero to many and a friend to all, thank you Patti Doane for showing us what life and living is really all about - you are one special person and an inspiration to all!
