Dave & Lisa Betcher, Bill Judge, Maria O'Brien, Hank & Tracy Mazurek (the planning committee for this month's Strike Out Cancer event) and everyone else involved in supporting the weekend's activities:
What started as an inquiry in mid-September - 'Gee, do you think it's possible to do some breast cancer awareness fundraising at the Hawks Exposure Tournament?'- turned into a tremendously successful event that made more than $6,000 for the American Cancer Society!
It's the positive attitude and creative ideas of the core team that made the entire event possible. Putting ideas into positive action is a powerful antidote for hopelessness. This planning team said 'yes - let's make this happen' from the outset and as a result over 85 teams of girls and their coaches enthusiastically helped create a model fundraiser that can be duplicated on an annual basis.
Thank you for all you did to make this event such a tremendous success and we look forward to making each year even better!
On a personal note, as a family living with Stage IV Breast Cancer, this event was such a positive outlet for us - our thanks go beyond words.
Go Hawks!

Thank you Jim, you certainly said it all when you spoke of the planning committee. I have never had so much help in such a short period of time to make something like this a success. Yes it will be an annual part of our event, next years date is already with the American Cancer Society for Oct 8-9!
Last night I had the privilege to present to Ashley Carlson $7508!!!! It was not the end, just the start. We hope to have additional pledges come forward next week of $1030 to make a grand total of $8538. But, it's not just the funds. What our goal was also was to be bringing awareness at all levels, in families, among the athletes, in the community. Every family is touched by the disease, and the more everyone can do to find the cure, the more everyone will share in the quality of life and health so many of us are blessed with. Ashley is devoted to the cause because her mom is a breast cancer survivor, and to see the excitement and hope in her face and hear her words of inspiration are truly awe-inspiring.
Thank you to everyone and every program over the 2 weeks who supported the joint effort of the softball community!
