Marcy Medina and Lauren Wells have been honored by their respective Conferences. Both were recruited and signed while playing for the Hawks.
Saginaw Valley State University freshman infielder Marcy Medina (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) has been chosen as the GLIAC Softball Player of the Week .
Freshman infielder Marcy Medina had a huge week, helping to lead the Cardinals to a 6-0 record. She batted .450 for the week with nine hits, four of which were homeruns and 12 RBI's, while slugging 1.100 for the week. Against Wayne State she belted two homers and added five RBI's, before adding two more homers at Hillsdale along with seven RBI's. Her second homerun against the Chargers was a grand slam.
Freshman pitcher Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) of Eastern Michigan University earned MAC West Pitcher of the Week.
Wells threw 10.1 innings in two appearances against Austin Peay State University last weekend without giving up a single earned run, deflating her season earned run average by over 2.5 runs. The freshman fanned 13 in two appearances in the circle, including a career-high 10 strikeouts in her complete game, eight-inning effort in the Eagles 3-1 win over APSU on March 27. Her performance also ties the sixth most strikeouts by an EMU hurler in the program's history. In 39 batters faced, Wells allowed only five hits to hold her opponents to a meager .147 batting average. The weekly award is the first in the freshman's career.
