Downers Grove North pitcher Kendall Ryndak vividly remembers the sight of her younger sister Dale coming to her softball games. Kendall was 10 years old. Dale was 7and apparently already starting to discover who she was.
"She used to come to my softball games with her scooter, fake Louis Vuitton purse, and mitt," Kendall said. "That girl was ready for anything."
Dale has outgrown the scooter and no longer uses a purse, but she still gets plenty of use out of her mitt. Kendall and Dale have joined forces at Downers North to make life miserable for opponents.
Kendall is an experienced senior, while Dale is a polished freshman. They have guided the Trojans to a No. 5 ranking and a 10-0 start through Wednesday.

A preseason Tribune Top 35 player, Kendall is committed to Lindenwood, an NAIA school in Missouri. She pitched seven shutouts as a junior and batted .407. This season she is sharing pitching duties with her sister.
When they aren't pitching, they play a variety of positions. Kendall plays the outfield, third base and first base. Dale plays the outfield, first and second.
Kendall is hitting .563 with a home run and six doubles. Dale is batting .500 with two home runs and four doubles. They are both 5-0 in the circle. Kendall has a 0.62 ERA, and Dale's is 0.97. Kendall has struck out 43. Dale has struck out 41.
"Dale is a bit taller and appears stronger than Kendall, but Kendall has been devotedly working out for about two years now and can more than hold her own," sixth-year North coach Mark Magro said. "On the field, their hair is always down, they both wear ribbons and I get their names correct about 50 percent of the time because I don't know who's who.
"They're both fun and outgoing, and loud, but Kendall is a bit more vocal right now. But that may be because Dale is a freshman and feeling her way around the team."
The Ryndak sisters have lived softball since the days of the scooter and the purse. Their goals for this season are as similar as their stats.
"We want to win conference, top our school record of 28 victories from last year, win regionals and hopefully go to state," they both said in an e-mail.
Because of their age difference, the two have never played on the same team, outside of a summer tournament or two.
"This year is very special, not only because our team is very talented, but because this is my first and last time to play with my sister for a full season," Kendall said.
"Ditto," said Dale, who plays on the Homer Hawks 16U travel team in the summer while her sister is on the Hawks 18U gold team.
