What a day for the HOMER HAWKS GOLD BETCHER at ASA NORTHERN NATIONAL GOLD tourney this weekend ... battling for 17 hours Saturday, falling to the Louisville Lady Sluggers Gold in the Championship game, playing 47 innings Saturday and losing to a great team coached by my good friend Don Dobina.
The luck of the draw saw the 2 tourney favorites matching up in the opening game, only to see the Sluggers prevail 3-1. It was the only game of the Gold event that the Sluggers did not exceed 10 runs. The HOMER HAWKS GOLD BETCHER then went on a terrific final day of the tourney journey that saw them defeat Team Akadema, then drop behind to an 8-0 deficit in the top of the 5th vs KC Peppers only to score 3 runs with 2 outs to extend the game. A game for the ages then followed, with the game eventually going 12 innings and almost 4 hours, only to see us prevail 15-13. Next up the team shut out the Indiana Magic Gold 93 from Lafayette 1-0, then dispatched the Illinios Bash 8-5, setting up the championship battle. The Sluggers came out strong after a scoreless first, and with class, the 2 teams battled with the Slugger winning a well deserved championship. Congrats Don!
To my 2011 team .. what memories and accomplishments! Scholar athletes, playing a Gold and Premier schedule equal to any in the country, we fought and battled as a team late in most every weekends events. Every girl who started and finished with us is committed to the University of their choice. What more can be said ... 2012 promises more great things as 6 wonderful 2012's retrun to be joined by a stellar class of new players and exceptional student athletes for this coming fall and 2012 summer season! To our graduating seniors ... Best of luck in college and I hope to see you all in the future with your college programs. Remember our motto, college softball is not an 4 year time span, it is the start of a 40 year journey and evolution of your maturity from the teen years to your adult life and future. This team has been so special ... I am so happy to have been a part of your team!
