Lot's of highlights and a valuable experience. We took 2 squads of 14 , 16 and 18 players - all 2012 - 2009's - and the over 30 schools that watched us were treated to Hawk softball on many occasions. We were able to mix players from 7 Hawk teams and have the girls play as a unit and impress! The older team - under the command of Dave Snooks, Ted "Wrong Way" Jankowski, Ray Makowski and John Popp went 3-3 on the weekend - including a 7-1 comeback to force international - where we picked the potential tieing run off 3rd base to end the game! The younger group, coached by myself, Jim Goranson, Dan and Lisa Vizza and Steve Bonezek were on the short end of several close battles - posting a record of 1-5 - but the tale of the tape was the fabulous pitching of the kiddie corp of 14 under pitchers, Vizza, Goranson and Ross, what a law firm as well as the gone with thunder home run barrage of Grogan and Ross! In Saturday's nightcap - the Hawks give up 3 in the first then come back to tie on Ross' 2 run bomb over dead center into the ravine to tie. Vizza shuts down the Knoxville Thunder the rest of the way then in international - Grogan hits a 2 out - 3-2 pitch - about 250 for walk-off granny!
Other highlights -
*** Several college coaches raved to our Remote Liaison for College Recruiting Marty Grogan that they have heard a lot about the HAWK program and they were impressed that hawk players know how to play the game!
*** Many parents of our girls remarked how well the teams gelled with just 1 practice together - that is the HAWK way - FAMILY!
*** Many players developed either new or stronger bonds with out last road trip of '07 - and those memories and friendships last forever and build for the future!
*** Lastly - our very own Ted Jankowski was given the tourney award for "Most Ingenious" when he single handedly masterminded the steal of first base from 2nd and got the opposing pitcher to deliver a pitch before anyone saw his mastermind play. It wasn't the play - it was more the removal of Ted from 1st base to the bucket and the replacement with Ray "Score em in Bunches" Makowski that lead the way to many more runs through the tourney. Makowski held strong as chants of "We want Dexter" roared through the Hawk contingent.
*** Most importantly, to all my girls and their families - you represented the HAWKS with class as always. You performed as athletes on the field with class and respect - we had a great time off the field - and I am so proud as always to call each of you HAWKS!
PS - I humbly accept the championship in the go cart race - Dexter and Tyler were left in my dust and Jeremy was disqualified! LOL

Great job in Tenn. Girls, the 10u would like to congratulate all of you on a very succesful trip. Way to show the younger girls what it means to play with class and win with Hawk Pride. Good luck and continued success. The 10u Hawkies.

Yes, it is with much dismay that Jeremy was not only disqualified from this race but is no longer allowed to race within a 500-mile radius of the Murfreesboro Go Cart & Putt Putt Golf Emporium. Disciplinary actions have been taken…any and all Hawks Attire has been removed from his humble abode (AKA – His Bedroom) and Hansen’s Painting & Decorating Inc. has revoked its sponsorship of this young, promising, up and coming driver.
An investigation is still in the works of some underhanded collusion between a Mr. Dexter and this young impressionable minor.
That being said, Mr. Betcher cannot technically claim this Championship without some sort of proof as to his winnings. If Mr. Betcher can produce for example, a Photo Finish Shot, then the Championship would undoubtedly be his!

As an aficionado of racing in the southeast, I will attest to the deft driving of Mr. Betcher in his glorious defeat of the underhanded one they call Dexter. As the drivers entered their vehicles, Dexter was seen slipping a $3 bill into young Jeremy's hand, along with a pocket book edition of "Indian at the Airport". Luckily a photo was snapped by the cunning Carolyn Scoop Bonezek, which will be posted soon to show the photo finish.
Many in the overflow crowd of 6 deep remarked the #6 car driven by Betcher was a handicap, but his masterful direction and course management could not be overcome.
As Betcher drank his skim milk from the champions cup he was overhead exclaiming, " This victory represents good over evil. This just shows if you play by the book, anything is possible. I want to thank my parents, my family and most of all Charla Dexter for secretly giving me a secret tip as to Dexter's one weakness in the race!"

Mr McGuire, don't pick on our coach or he will make Mr Walker the DIrector of Gas Fill-ups and your car will be first. After watching our coach beat evil Dexter we are now confident we will cruch you in the push up contest. By the way, Mrs. Vizza wants to know if the push-ups will be orange flavored?

Putting diesal gas in all of the cars of my competitors would be an excellent way to make sure my team wins the pushup contest. They can't compete if they don't show up. Tell the Vizza's to watch out, I know where they live. Park their cars indoors the night before the competition.

Who was that young man in Orland tonight on 94th Ave with his keys in one hand and a drive shaft in the other. Seems Jeremy - evil Dexter's Odd Job - was wishing he would have taken that driving course after all. Police report the abuse he laid on that drive shaft was some of the worst driving they have ever witnessed. Mom said now he will have to work off the cost of a new drive shaft by doing odd jobs around the Dexter Estate. Jeremy, a word to the wise, never cut off the champion again! lol
