USF garners softball awards March 14, 2008 from staff reports JOLIET -- University of St. Francis senior third baseman Jamie Redman from Lincoln-Way Central High School and freshman right-handed pitcher Kim Malacina from Lockport have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week The two players helped lead the Saints to an impressive 9-3 record on their season-opening trip to the Rebel Spring Games at Kissimmee, Fla. Redman led the Saints with 12 hits for the week and a total of 13 on the trip. She hit at a .353 clip for the week (.342 overall) and led the team in total bases (15) and stolen bases (4). She also played a stellar third base, committing only one error for the week (and two on the whole trip). Malacina shined on a pitching staff that recorded four shutouts in 12 games and came out victorious in six one-run decisions. The freshman pitcher was 3-1 for the week (Monday through Sunday) and 4-1 for the overall trip. She fired USF's only two complete games on the trip and also earned the pitching staff's only two saves. She struck out 20 and walked 8. She psoted a 1.39 ERA.
