Paradzinski shines; SXU softball sweeps Calumet Freshman centerfielder Megan Paradzinski (Munster, Ind./Munster) finished the day 6-for-9 with seven runs scored and three RBI to help lead the Saint Xavier University softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Friday afternoon at Standard Diamonds in Whiting, Ind. The Cougars (8-10 overall/4-2 CCAC) blasted 28 hits over the two-game stretch and scored an impressive 27 runs Friday winning game one, 14-1, in five innings and game two, 13-3, in seven innings.
Sophomore Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) earned the victory in the first game throwing all five innings and allowing just four hits, one run (earned), and a walk with seven strikeouts. The win improves her record to 5-4 on the season. Senior Ashley Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) posted the victory on the mound in game two going all seven innings and giving up eight hits, three runs (two earned), and no walks with five strikeouts. She improves to 1-5 on the year with the win. Offensively, there were plenty of top performers, including freshman rightfielder Rachel Krabbe (Beecher, Ill./Beecher). Krabbe went 5-for-6 at the plate with four runs scored and three RBI. Freshman leftfielder Lisa Gryczeski (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) also was tough finishing 3-for-8 with a triple, four runs scored, two stolen bases, and five RBI.
Saint Xavier (8-10 overall/4-2 CCAC) take the weekend off before continuing their conference slate with a home doubleheader against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Tuesday, April 1. The first game of the twin bill is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at SXU Softball Field.
