L-W Central a winner
April 20, 2007 BY RANDY WHALEN Gabe Gavoni's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave No. 4 Lincoln-Way Central a 4-3 win over visiting Lockport (7-4, 2-3) in a Southwest Suburban softball crossover on Thursday. ''I love that situation, love it,'' Gavoni said. ''In the last inning, it was just a chain reaction, and we all got the hits. We're on a roll, and we just pick each other up.''
Alicia Abbott led off the eighth with a single and advanced to third on Courtney Dunker's double. Gavoni then hit a 1-0 pitch up the middle to win the game.
Abbott (3-for-4) had a two-run double that tied the game at 3 in the fifth. Jackie Dugan (4-1) got the win in relief for the Knights (12-1, 4-0).
• • Sara Olson's three-hit, 12-strikeout complete game sparked visiting Sandburg to a 1-0 victory over No. 10 Lincoln-Way East.
Ashley Conrad's hit in the the sixth scored pinch runner Katie Pistello for the game's only run. Pistello was running for Brittany Spencer, who led off the inning with a double for the No. 3 Eagles (12-1).
Jennifer Burns allowed two hits and struck out seven for the Griffins (9-3).

Times Staff Report
PREP ROUNDUP
Munster senior Jessica Clusserath singled home the tying and lead runs with two outs in the fifth and the Times No. 2 Munster softball team held on for a 3-2 win over Highland on Thursday in Lake Athletic Conference Black Division action.
Munster and Highland pitching combined for six strikeouts, which translated to a lot of balls being put in play, which further resulted in some good glove work from both teams.
"Both teams fielded the ball well," Munster coach Beth Vesa said. "This was a nice, well-played game. And we had the good fortune to make a couple of good plays and get the clutch hit when we needed one."
"I was pleased with how we played," Highland coach Natalie Shadowen said. "We made some nice plays and did good job of getting our bunts down."
Lauren Olivo and Jackie Livingston had two hits each for Highland (5-4, 3-3), while pitcher Beth Haley went the distance, allowing six hits and walking one.
Munster leadoff hitter Megan Paradzinski had three hits while Clusserath had two singles for the Mustangs.
Eleanor Kennedy picked up the win for Munster with 4 1/3 clutch innings of relief pitching. Munster took a 1-0 lead in the second on Kennedy's two-out, run-scoring single in the second inning.
"It was good because it was a conference win against a possible sectional opponent," Vesa said. "You're not always going to come out and score a bunch of runs. Sometimes you have to win the way we did today, and I'm glad we showed we could."
