Following up on the clean sweep in Pontiac last weekend - the Hawks stayed hot and went undefeated again this weekend in THE CHICAGO OUTBURST ASA TOURNEY.
Where do we start - pool play opened with the Hawks and Naperville Diamonds tieing 0-0 - well pitched games by Chelsea Ross for the Hawks vs Miss Wunderlich for the Diamonds. The Hawks then knocked off the Huntley Hurricanes 6-0 behind the strong pitching of Amy Narotsky - clutch hitting of Rachel Mayer and Vic Dellorto and some terrific defense by many including Christina Wilson at third base!
Sunday morning saw the Hawks shut out the Orland Sparks Black 4-0 behind Delorto's mound effort - 2 hits from Erin Keefe, Katie Betcher, and Jess Perkins; a booming double from Nora McGuire to ignite the 3 run 4th put the game out of reach. Allysa Poole doubled in 2 to wrap up the scoring. Next up a rematch with the Diamonds and another pitching classic from Ross - offensive heroics from Perkins, Ross, Stacie Bonecek paced the offense. Highlight was a booming home run over the left field fence from Ross.
On to the semis and another rematch with the Orland Sparks - who used a defensive miscue to tally 2 runs in the 4th to tie the game and ruin the unscored upon streak of the Hawks. Hitting heroics from Keefe, Ross,Dexter,Boren,Poole and Betcher lead the way to a 5-2 victory and on to the championship game! Boren hurled the complete game gem with 2 runs scoring on a rare sloppy inning from the HAWKS in the 4th.
In the final - the Hawks finally got to see a new face - the Chitown Express - who had been unscored on as well until the final game - the Hawks came back with Ross on the mound - and she didn't disappoint with 8 strikeouts and some clutch defense leading the way. The Hawks scored 2 in the 3rd and made them hold up. Dellorto lead off with a single, Perkins doubled her home, Keefe moved Perkins to 3rd, Ross and Dexter were walked and Perkins was able to score on an pitch.
Congrats to Chitown for never giving up and pushing the final game to the limit.
Great job HAWKS!
Back to back undefeateed weekends - keep working hard HAWKS - we have a long way to go!
