The weekend was a tremendous test in personal heartache and team building results.
I don't know how to write this column because in a private moment - our 14's had two of our families and athletes both have their grandmother pass away Saturday. Neither athlete was told of the facts until they were at home in the evening with their families - but both knew it was only a matter of time and still performed fantastically under the intense emotional scars of knowing what was going to happen so soon in their young lives. Life teaches us many lessons in life and gives us highs and lows, quality people handle both with dignity and respect - these families have shown us all strength and love at such a tragic time in their lives.
To both families - our prayers and thoughts are with you.
As to the team, we started short handed due to several injuries and as the day continued, we saw athlete after athlete fall to injury - but there was always someone waiting to help her teammates and make the play or sacrifice for the team - in the end - it was all about a tremendous group of young ladies and families believing in each other and working thru so many personal and physical issues as one. That's all I have to say about the games - the real life issues of the day were far more prevalent and deserving of mention, thought and prayer for our Hawk family. I couldn't be prouder to be associated with the members of this team and program.
