Battling injuries on both fronts - the Hawk 14's finish off the pre nationals tourney rung on top ... Raber's Hawks win the Orland A's Tourney undefeated - winning the championship game 8-0 along the way ... hopefully he will forward more details for us!
Hawks Betcher battled in great games all weekend in Wasco and won 2nd place in splendid fashion! So many heroes .. I'll need some time to write up the details - but the Hawks battled and battled behind pitching workhorse Amy Narotsky, who pitched all but 5 innings on the weekend as the Hawks went 5-1 ... the highlights included an 8-2 win Saturday in pool over the top notch Wasco Diamonds, then a semi final tilt on Sunday with the 14 under ASA Metro champs - Berwyn Bash Blue - a classic game that saw the Bash go up 1-0, the Erin Keefe tied it with a BOOMING SOLO home run clearing the fence by 15-20 feet, then the Bash came back in the 6th with one followed by a clutch 2 strike bunt from Kelly Wetherald to put the tieing run in scoring position top tie in the 6th ... Amy held them scoreless in the 7th as the Hawks with 2 outs got a single from Christina Wilson, followed by a single from Rachel Lynch ... 2 outs - 2 on - and the Bash brought in their ace to shut the door - throwing smoke as she warmed up. To the plate stepped Josie Dexter, but wait, there's more to the story. By the way - Brooks Robinson and Mark Bellanger had nothing on the combo of Lardner and Wilson stealing away hit after hit as the Bash kept trying to find a hole in the left side of the infield!
Young Josie had just been traumatized at watching her father - Webmaster Jeffie, almost lose his life in a bug accident. As the inning mounted energy and excitement - the HAWKS LEADING CHEERLEADER AND MAN OF PURPLE COMPLEXION - was yelling for the Hawks when a small bird some say, although later it was determined to be a MEDITERRANEAN FRUIT FLY - flew into his mouth and was lodged in his throat. As he gasped for air, the moms on the team all pulled straws to see who would be the unlucky loser in case mouth to mouth was needed. Fortunately, the disaster was averted when chick magnet douse Jeffies throat with a power-aide.
Back to the final play - Josie hit the second pitch - had to be close to 60 mph - just as hard - right at the 2nd baseman - who may not have seen the shot coming - it glanced a few feet to her right as the fleet footed Wilson scored from 2nd for the win!
On to the championship game where Iron Woman Narotsky took the mound again - her 5th start of the weekend - and battled and battled the Tidal Waves -- a gallant 3 run rally in the 6th brought the Hawks to within 1 at 5-4 - but the insurance run the Tidal Waves picked up in the seventh made the final 6-4 - a great win for them and a terrific weekend for the Hawks.

A terrific weekend for our 10 hawk ladies battling every inch of the way! I am so proud of you all. Kudos also to Rachel Mayer - fresh off a year away from the mound - for 5 shutout inning Sunday morning - teaming with Amy to another shutout. Saturday's hitting heroes included Maddie Lardner, Nora McGuire, Rachel Lynch and Katie Betcher. Wilson pounded one over the fence in dead center as well.
