Dugan leads L-W Central
Lincoln-Way Central is finding every way to win.
Sophomore Jackie Dugan hurled a three-hit shutout as the No. 3 Knights blanked host Homewood-Flossmoor 1-0 to remain undefeated in the Southwest Suburban Red.

Last week, Central slugged its way to a pair of 6-4 victories over No. 8 Beecher and No. 9 Plainfield Central.

''That's an outstanding win to go on the road and beat a team like H-F,'' Lincoln-Way Central coach Dick Mandella said. ''I don't care how we do it, if it's 5-4 or 1-0.''

The Knights (18-2, 7-0) scored the winning run in the seventh. Courtney Dunker hit a one-out single off the right-field fence, moved to second on a single by Gabe Gavoni and scored when the Vikings (12-5, 4-3) committed their only error of the game.

Dugan (8-1) walked two and struck out nine to pick up the victory. Homewood-Flossmoor pitcher Stacey Struzynski (12-5) also struck out nine while walking none and allowing four hits.

''Everything was working for me today,'' Dugan said. ''We've become a team this year. We've learned how to play well together, and that's the key to it all.''

Ashley Vizek scored the tying run in the bottom of the 5th inning and Zoe Sinner hit a solo shot for her 9th homer of the year. Downers South moves to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in conference.

Stephanie Maday pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Elk Grove (19-3). Kayla Mahoney broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double.

Kristin Jakobsen struck out four in a complete game and scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth for Elmwood Park (7-12).

Winning pitcher Hana Somogyi (14-1) threw a complete-game three-hitter for Resurrection (19-4, 6-0). Alex Athens was 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and Nicki Nadrowski was 2-for-3.

JOLIET -- Lockport High School softball coach Marissa Chovanec was apprehensive that the bats might be rusty after a week's worth of postponements.

But she need not have worried. Lockport scored in five of seven innings Monday during a 10-3 SouthWest Suburban Blue victory over Joliet Township.

Lockport (11-4, 3-3) put the game away with a 5-run fourth inning. Senior Brittany Wilson's 3-run homer capped the onslaught.

It was the first of 2 big hits for Wilson. She tripled home a run in the seventh, helping Dana Bowler win her fourth game.

"We lost two games to Sandburg due to rain," Chovanec explained. "Last weekend was also prom weekend, and that meant we didn't get to see opposition pitching for a week.

"You never know how your people will react to a week off, but we came out and moved the ball effectively. I'm happy with the way we're playing."

Jenny Festin and Cassie Walisiak contributed 2 RBIs for the Porters, who were playing the first of seven games in six days. Festin finished the afternoon with 2 hits.

"I like where we are right now," Chovanec added. "A good week will put us in good position as we prepare for the postseason."

Bowler (4-3), a sophomore, struck out 5 against 2 walks. She allowed just 2 hits.
