Lockport 6, Downers Grove South 2 -- At Lockport, the Porters (2-0) won for the second straight day with the nonconference win.
Sophomore Dana Bowler (1-0) struck out 5, allowed 2 hits and no runs in 3 innings. Sarah Porzel and Lauren Stapinski also pitched.
Katelyn Braget had 2 hits and scored. Hannah Carter added a hit, RBI and run for the Porters, who had a 2-run third inning and 3-run sixth.
"Our pitchers walked 10," Lockport coach Marissa Chovanec said. "That's a lot of runners to put on base."
Lincoln-Way Central 5, Marian Catholic 1 -- At New Lenox, winning pitcher Jackie Dugan and reliever Carly DeMarco scattered 8 hits and Gabe Gavoni slugged a 3-run home run to lead the Knights (2-0) past Marian (1-1). Rachel Larson chipped in with 3 hits and 2 runs scored.
Dugan worked 5 innings and allowed the only Marian run. She and DeMarco struck out 1 as the Central defense dominated.
"We do not have a big-time strikeout pitcher so we have to play good defense, and we've done that so far," Knights coach Dick Mandella said
