Sophomore pitcher Jessica Dobson combined with junior Karissa Inglis for a no-hitter on Monday as Times No. 2 Lake Central beat Highland 2-0 in nonconference softball action.
Dobson struck out six in six innings for her second consecutive no hitter (the sophomore also threw a no-no against Portage last week).
"I could barely feel my fingers," laughed Dobson of the game that started during a snow storm. "So I just stuck with my fastball."
In the bottom of the first, Sarah Shields led off with a double and Meredith Cioffi reached base on a walk. Both runners advance and scored on RBI groundouts by Jen Kosinski and Ashley Michalski.
Lake Central raised its record to 6-0.
Whiting 13, Lake Station 0: Mel Dumezich struck out 17 batters to record a six-inning perfect game and her third win of the season as Whiting beat Lake Station in LAC Blue action.
Victoria Franco led the Oilers attack with a double and three RBIs as Sam Plavec had two doubles and two RBIs. Kelly Janski also had a double as Whiting (3-1, 3-0) scored five runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Robin Tarnowski took the loss as Lake Station dropped to 0-3 on the season and in the conference.
Munster 11, Griffith 1: Hallie Gibbs went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs and two RBIs as Munster remained undefeated and won the LAC Black matchup.
Ashley Moore scored four runs and Lauren Parker went 2-for-4 with two runs and two batted in for the Mustangs (4-0, 3-0).
Kate Rone, who struck out three, took the loss for Griffith (3-3, 0-2).
Calumet 5, Washington Twp. 2: Justine Jones had two hits, including a triple, to lead the No. 9 Warriors (7-1) over the visiting Senators (2-1).
Amanda Cole (6-1) went the distance and allowed just four hits. Washington Twp. committed three errors, which led to all of the Warriors' runs.
Boone Grove 6, North Newton 1: After four hitless innings, the Wolves erupted for all of their runs in the fifth to subdue the Spartans (3-1).
Caitlin Wilcox started the rally with one of her two hits and Lauren Johnson singled in a pair. Morgan Doelling was 2-for-2 for Boone (3-0), which got 13 strikeouts from Lauren Dehnert and Taylor Johnson.
Kankakee Valley 10, Hebron 9, 9 inn.: Krystal Higgerson hit her second double of the game with runners on first and second and no one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to send home Detra Wood for the winning run. The run was Wood's only of the game as she went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs of her own for the Kougars (1-2).
Pitcher Jessica Orris had two doubles, three RBIs and struck out nine to lead Hebron (1-1).
LaPorte 6, Valparaiso 5: The Vikings (0-4, 0-2) stranded runners on second and third base in the bottom of the seventh inning and lost to the visiting Slicers (2-2, 1-1) in Duneland Athletic Conference action.
Brooke Cygan led Valpo with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.
