Flyers Finish 3-1 At Winona State Tournament
Lewis beats Wisconsin-Parkside and St. Cloud State on Sunday

WINONA, Minn. - Juniors Kelly Dianis, Carissa Castonzo and freshman Stephanie Trapp each went deep as No. 24 Lewis defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 2-0, and St. Cloud State 9-1 (6 innings), Sunday at the Winona State Tournament.
Castonzo's home run came in the fifth inning of the game against Wisconsin-Parkside. Scoreless through the first 4 ½ innings, Castonzo led off the bottom of the fifth with powerful shot over the fence in left field. It was her second home run of the season.
Later in the inning, the Flyers added their second run when junior Lisa Gartland scored from third after a double by sophomore Kara Harmatys. Gartland had tripled to right center ahead of Harmatys' at-bat.
Junior Courtney Lyons (13-3) earned the win in the circle with another solid effort. She struck out six while allowing just two hits to register her fifth shutout of the season.
Against St. Cloud State, junior Julie Wingerter secured her first win of the season after pitching four scoreless innings with no walks and just one hit. She also struck out three batters.
The Flyers' offense provided plenty of support, scoring once in the second, three times in the third and the fifth, and twice in the sixth.
Dianis led the way for the Flyers at the plate. She went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Her run-scoring single in the third made the score 2-0 Lewis, and she added a lead-off homer in the Flyers' three-run fifth. Dianis is now one home run shy of tying the Lewis career record of 19.
Sophomore Brittany DiPietro brought home Gartland for Lewis' first run of the game. In the third, senior Carla Musillo collected an RBI with a successful squeeze bunt, and Gartland added a RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Following Dianis' homer to start the fifth, sophomore Lexie Vernon doubled to left center and scored via the first collegiate home run by Trapp.
Lewis forced the run-rule in the sixth. Freshman Sarah Hurley started the rally with a lead-off single for her second hit of the game. Harmatys followed with another single, advancing Hurley to third. Freshman pinch-hitter Brittany Patete plated Hurley with a single to the left side, and Dianis ended the game with a RBI-single to right.
The Flyers (21-9) play next on Saturday at Missouri S&T.
